Week 4 Engineering Station

There is 1 piece of PVC pipe on the table. There is also a roll of tape. Today, I'd like you to use a piece of graph paper and draw the solution to the problem below. Let me know when you are done.

Here is the problem:

How long does each piece of pvc need to be if the pipe needs to be cut into equal lengths for 30 students?

The next step will be to mark off the sections on the pipe using both a measuring tape, and painter's tape.

The next step will be to actually set up the pipe on the vice table and cut the lengths of pipe according to the diagram (plan) that you drew.

Week 4 Bicycle Station

You will need graph paper at the bicycle station.

This week I'd like you to focus on labeling your diagrams, as well as writing accurate measurements on your diagrams. Last week showed the start of some really good work, the circles were neat and followed the poster examples. Keep up your attention to detail, and ask Mr. Grimm questions. (Of course follow the class rules and don't shout across the room).

Have fun!

Back to School Night

Welcome, parents! I am very excited to be here at SLO High, and I hope your student has fun learning with me this year. So far we are off to a fast start, we have been developing our routines and "working out kinks" in the classroom flow. We have several chromebooks that will be used by students to write about their classroom learning on their Blogger Blogs, and/or to work on assignments.
I run the class using stations, as this is an efficient way to get students engaged with different tasks throughout the class period, without too much verbal instruction overload. I have been seeing students excel at different things at different times, and I think that the kids are going to discover many new things to get excited about this year.
Please contact me via email if you have any questions, I will get back to you ASAP. (Please just be aware that I get 50-60 emails per day that I need to process, plus I am getting used to how we do things here at SLO High.
Thanks for coming tonight!

Bicycles and Algebra

Happy Friday. Today we will run a little experiment using a fixed gear bike, painter's tape, pencils, and the worksheet below.
