Mom Takes Practical Approach to Buying Gifts

Report this ad

DEAR ABBY: My boyfriend and I have been together for a couple of years. He has three siblings, all in their 20s, none married.

Today I received a group email from his mom addressed to him, his father, his grandmother, all three siblings and their boyfriends/girlfriends (including me) asking for Christmas wish lists. She wants to know what we would like for Christmas and would like all of us to "reply all" on the email so everyone else will have ideas for Christmas presents.

I don't know how to respond! I don't want to appear greedy, but I do like the idea that she wants to get us all presents that we will like. Can you give me any suggestions on the best way to respond? -- PERPLEXED IN ALABAMA

Parents Are Left Out in the Cold While Son Celebrates Holidays With In-Laws

Report this ad

DEAR ABBY: Have you ever heard the saying, "A daughter is a daughter all of her life, but a son is a son 'til he takes a wife"? Our son and his family have never spent a single Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with us during the entire 17 years they have been married. A Thanksgiving with them is very rare.

They live an hour away. We and his in-laws live in the same small town, but they spend every holiday at the in-laws'. Their children have no memories of us on the holidays. When I talked about it with our friends, they said they have the same problem. All of their sons go to their daughter-in-laws' parents', too.

With the holidays coming up, I hope you may have something to say about this. When we spoke to our son about it, it just caused bad feelings. -- SAME PROBLEM IN MINNESOTA

Excellent Study Habits

First: Your attention should be on making sure you know your upcoming test dates and have them written in a Calendar/ Planner.

Second: Make sure you have all materials you need to study. If you don’t, you should figure out how to get them (ask for help if needed). Then get them.

Third: Complete assignments that are due, then turn them in.

Fourth: Study vocab words, concepts, notes, etc. I recommend making Quizlets, Do the Learn function, and test yourself.
