Personal Data Tracking Blog Post

2 weeks ago, we wrote goals for each of the 6 Areas of Health, and created a data tracking form with areas for tracking each goal. Look back over the data you collected and answer the following questions in a blog post. This exercise is a characteristic of a person developing their critical thinking skills.

1. What were your percentages of tracking accuracy for each area?

2. Which areas did you track most consistently? Why do you think that is?

3. Which areas of tracking did you most avoid? Why do you think that is?

4. Write 3 or 4 sentences describing which developmental stage of Critical Thinking you believe you are at and why, based on your data tracking efforts on this assignment.

Include a photo of your data tracking form.

In your Brain Book, write 1 goal for each area of Health for next week. Remember that you have finals, and that you have a different schedule next week, which requires more thought in order to stay on top of things.

The task is to write a script for a 2 minute video in which the the two characters deal with some sort of Health related dilemma. The characters must Reference and use the GREAT decision making model, making the storyline as realistic as possible, even if absurdity is being utilized. (The logic must be there).

Introduce the catch phrases of the characters into the script.

1. Write the script, make the background, and record the video.

2. Share the video to me.

Evaluation Day

Encouragement: we will benefit if we are brave enough to be honest.

Now we can really begin to solve interesting problems. In order to do this though, it seems we need to identify the problem. In order to identify the problem, we need to review the data and then figure out what questions to ask of the data. This will give us some metrics from which to start.

Task 1. Write down your final goal areas’ %.

Task 2. Take a good clear picture of your tracking chart.

Task 3. Rank order your list, according to the percentages what were you best at doing?

If you were consistently good at tracking and your tracking methods were fairly accurate, then you should have a good summary of “how healthy you are“.

Task 4. Describe your ranking: according to your data, which areas of health were most important to you in the last two weeks?

Task 5. Which areas of health were you least successful in addressing?

Task 6. Read back over page 14. What are some of the “Influences of your Wellness” that explain why your data looks the way that it does?

Task 7. Read back over p. 66 “Defense Mechanisms” p. 66 and 67. Can you identify any defense mechanisms that you engaged in over the last two weeks? How are these strategies helpful to you? How were the strategies not helpful to you?

Task 8. Read over “Taking charge of your Wellness” p. 15-16. What could you do to take charge of your wellness over the two weeks?

Task 9. Watch again the video S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Task 10. Write new goals and design a new tracking sheet for the next 2 week period.

(For Physical, we will be tracking Resting Heart Rate and hours of sleep.)

Physical (Heartrate) By May 31, I will record my resting heart rate every morning before I get out of bed, as measured by the numbers recorded on my tracking sheet.

Physical (Sleep) by May 31, I will record my hours of sleep every morning after I wake up as measured by my data tracking sheet.

Personal Goals and YRBS Data

Mrs. Agbo will be your substitute teacher today.

Please read over this entire post before beginning on the work.

I have looked over your food tracking sheets and commented on them. I also returned them in order for you to update Tuesday’s information. That brings us to task number one for the day.

1. Please update your food tracker for Tuesday. (10 minutes) Be sure to read my comments, and feel free to make your own comments back.

(If you are already finished with your data tracking, work on the Quizlet word bank for this week for the 10 minutes that others are finishing up.)

2. The next installment of MEDIA LITERACY. I would ask again that Amy and Isabelle take notes in MindMeister. I will revisit some of the media literacy topics when I come back to class on Thursday.

3. Introduction to sexual health. Being healthy in this area really comes down to communication. As we begin to look into relationships including dating and developing intimacy, it’s important to know where we came from, and what our communication styles are. That is why we took the Myers-Briggs personality test, so we have a framework to really get a good understanding of ourselves, now we will look into families, which is where you learned many (most?) of your communication skills.
Start by outlining pages 418 to 422 in your Brain Books on the next available pages. Be sure to reference the pages in your table of contents.
(Skip 2 or 3 lines between topics in order to take notes)
Here is an example of how to start:

After you have outlined all the way to page 422, go back and carefully read each section, and write down one or two details (bullet points are fine) within each of the sections.
When you are finished taking notes, answer questions number eight and number nine on page 422.

4. After you have completed the two critical thinking questions, get into groups of three and have a 3 to 5 minute conversation podcast in which each member shares the question and answer to number nine (see above). Share the audio file to jgrimm@slcusd.org.
Teams:

Please plug in the chrome books when it is time to leave. Thanks!
I’ll be back tomorrow,
Mr. Grimm

Data Tracking

This is quite a big project, in that it requires a lot of diligence on your part in order to be accurate. It is best not to rely on large chunks of time “working on these things“. This project can actually give you very good insight as to your attitude behavior, and choices, if you are mindful of accurate data collection.

Anytime we begin analyzing data, if we are honest with ourselves, we will start to see flaws in our thinking. And I feel that’s the crux of this entire project. Becoming a better thinker is the goal.

The temptation to “just get it done“ or to not take it seriously, is a shortsighted view, and I would challenge you to take it as seriously as possible to see if you could make some real improvements to your life.

Take 15 minutes and do the following:
  1. Upload Monday’s Food Tracking to your Google Spreadsheet (or doc) and submit it to the Google Classroom assignment.
  2. In your brain book, describe what is easy or difficult parentheses or both and parentheses about the goal tracking project.
  3. In your brain book brainstorm a few ways that you might be able to make it a little easier to track your data.
  4. Analyze the clarity of your goals are they well written in that they are only trying to track one thing that is easy to count?

Quizlet Activities: See Quizlet Classroom and work on the learning activities for 10 minutes.
