Wednesday Health

Today we will start here:

Then we will go back here

Coordinate Planes

We have been working with coordinate planes in algebra.

To figure out where the Mark goes, you have to use an ordered pair. Ordered pairs are written in this format:
(X,Y)

Here are the steps to plot a point on the coordinate plane using an ordered pair.

  • Start at the origin
  • Count along the X axis
  • Then count along the Y axis
  • Plot the point and write the letter
Today we went outside in order to try drawing large coordinate planes on the sidewalk using chalk. Here were the instructions:

Here were the results:

Nutrition Tracking- A thousand mile journey begins with a single step

Yesterday you set up an account on SuperTracker, but didn't enter any information (as an assignment). You will be entering in some information today, and for the next 2 weeks

I chose for us to use SuperTracker because I have used it before, and it is helpful to use in order to analyze data.

This is a difficult assignment because it requires you to measure, calculate, remember, record, enter data, analyze results, and then reflect on your own choices. It actually gets easier the more you use it, but it can be hard to begin. Sometimes people don't like to look at their choices, but it is crucial in order to accurately analyze your health.

The point of this project is not perfection, but learning about yourself based on data collection and analysis.

You will have time daily in class to ENTER YOUR DATA into SuperTracker, but you will need to work out a process for RECORDING your food intake as you go through your day. Here is my process so far:

Today I will show you how to "Create a Combo" and then enter it into the system.

Then I will "turn you loose" so you can:
1. Think back and record your food intake from Monday.
2. Think back and record your food intake from Tuesday up until this class period.
3. Start entering your food data into your SuperTracker account. If you finish,
4. Write a blog post about your reaction to having this two week project be assigned to you:

In your blog post, please answer the following questions:
-What is your hope for what you could learn from doing this Food Tracking Project?

-What might get in your way of doing this project accurately or consistently?

-What types of support might you need in order to do this project?

-What are your fears about doing this project, if any?

5. If you finish the blog post, work on yesterday's vocabulary words
6. If you finish the vocabulary words, please read pages 154-160 and answer the questions on page 160, #'s 1-11.

Nutrition for Life

Last week ended with a quick introduction to the Periodic Table of the Elements. Some of the Elements are needed by your body, and your body gets these nutrients by eating food.

Different foods have different amounts of nutrients, no one food has everything your body needs to be healthy.

Description
1 Gram of Sugar

To measure how much of a teaspoon a gram of sugar occupies, use a teaspoon of granulated white sugar. You would see one gram of sugar to occupy ¼ tsp by volume.
1 Gram of Salt

A gram of salt occupied about 1/6 tsp, makes it the most heavy of all the ingredients. Salt is composed of sodium chloride, sodium accounting for 40% of its total weight. So ½ tsp of salt contains 1 gram of sodium.
