Week 7 Engineering Station

This week we will be using information from Home Depot in order to design a sprinkler system.
Here is the "problem":

Here is some information I found at Home Depot this weekend:

1/2" PVC is 10' for $2.28. Bulk price is 1.94 if you buy 10 or more.
Couplers are .33 cents each or 4.51 for 25.
90 degree elbows are .41 cents each or 5.39 for 10 or more.
45 degree elbows are .81 each
Primer and Glue kits are 8.98 each
Tees are 1.40 each
Corner Tees are 1.42 each

PVC Cutters are 13.98

Sprinkler Heads:
Pop up Sprinkler- Quarter Circle- 3.27

Pop up Sprinkler- Full Circle- 3.27

Week 6 Bicycle Station

You can see that there are many parts to a bicycle, and it is difficult to see exactly how to put it all back together. At the bicycle station today, please continue to tape the parts to the pieces of paper until every piece is taped on to the papers.

When all of the bike parts are taped to the paper, please use your blogger sheet to answer the following questions:

1. What parts did you remove from the bike?

2. Did you enjoy taking the bike apart?

3. What parts did you tape on to the paper?

4. Which was easier; to remove parts, or tape parts on?

5. If you were to start putting the bike back together, which 3 parts would you start with?

Week 6 Engineering Station

The PVC has been cut. Today at the Engineering Station, first review the original task. On your Blogger sheet, answer these questions:

1. How many pieces are there?

2. How many pieces were we supposed to have?

3. What grade would you give the cutters of the PVC?

4. Why would you give the cutters the grade you did?

5. What was one problem that people who cut PVC might run into as they are trying to cut equal lengths?

6. Now that we have all of these pieces of PVC, but they are all at different lengths, what do you think we could make with them? Write 3 ideas.

Week 6 Notes Station

Here are the problems from the Notes Station. Remember you can use your Brain Book to guide you through these problems.

Week 6 "Getting in the Groove"

Last week we made some great improvements to the flow of class. It seems you all are transitioning in to the year now, and we are ready to do some deeper learning. As they say, "Buckle up, Buttercup." :)

At the Book Station, this week we are learning divisibility rules and getting lots of practice with this important exercise.

So far in the Bicycle Station, we have almost completely dismantled an entire bike. We will be learning the part names as we sand the frame to prepare it for repainting.

At the Notes station, there are 4 different types of problems that we are using our Brain Books to guide us through.

In the Engineering Station, we are still working on cutting lengths of PVC pipe. We will be sanding, diagramming, and innovating with this resource.

At the Blog Station, we are writing about the work done at the Bicycle and Engineering Stations, and hopefully there will be a lot of pictures on students' blogs, as well.

Perseverance (Week 5)

Good Morning, it's a Wednesday, right in the middle of the week, almost the middle of the semester.

Progress Reports come out next week.

The weather is changing, winter will soon be here. The transition back to school is just about over, we are settling into our routines.

Embrace reality, if you fight it, your life will be hard.

Algebra Periods 1 and 2:

Station 1: You will be working out of the textbook.

Station 2: You will be taking apart the bicycle, and also Divisibility Rules Practice.

Station 3: You will be working on Combining like terms, Solve for a variable, and also working on Divisibility Rules Practice.

Station 4: You will be working on the PVC Engineering Station Assignment

The project seems to be coming along!

Station 5: You will begin your Math Facts Practice, check your grades, and create a "Grade Improvement Plan" if you don't like your grade.

Study Skills:

I have noticed that some people are being resistant to work on their work. The aides are here to help, please cooperate with them.

Remember, your grade should be a reflection of your effort in Study skills class. If you are getting a D or a C in a class, you are not maximizing your effort in study skills.

If you don't FEEL like working, I get it. Come and tell me, we can have a discussion.
If you don't know what to do, I get it. Please talk to me or to one of the aides to help you find what you need in order to get your work done.
